FAQ
Q: What's the difference between BlogPlanet and SX1Blog?
A: SX1Blog is special version of BlogPlanet for users of the Siemens SX1 and it only runs on the SX1. It is free
but doesn't offer as many features as BlogPlanet. Some of the things missing are: Support for titles, retrieving the
list of the user's blogs on the server, automatic closing of bold and italic tags, Czech language support and
confirmations can be disabled.
Q: With which Blog servers/providers does it work?
A: SX1Blog and BlogPlanet use XML-RPC and the BloggerAPI and MetaWeblogAPI for
uploading posts and pictures respectively. Generally any Blog provider that supports
these technologies is also supported by SX1Blog. Examples are Blogger.com, TypePad, all sites that
run MovableType,
all sites that run B2,
all sites that run Nucleus,
all sites that run Roller.
Of these, currently only TypePad, MovableType and Nucleus servers support image
upload via MetaWeblogAPI.
Q: What are the server settings for Blogger.com?
A: Host name: new.blogger.com, Port: 80,
Endpoint: /api/RPC2, Supports Image Upload: <disabled>
A list of settings for other servers is available
here.
Q: How can I find out my blog id?
A: Log into your blog's webpage, as if you would want to write a new post. Then take a look at the URL
in the browser's address bar. Towards the end of the URL it says the blog id. In Blogger.com it looks
like this: http://new.blogger.com/blog.pyra?blogID=1234567, so in this case the blog id
would be 1234567.
Q: How can I write titles for my posts?
A: If you use Blogger.com, the easiest way is to add a shortcut to the user dictionary that you can
insert as the title. It could look like this: <b></b><br />. When you
write your next post, insert this sequence into the text and add the title between the <b>
and </b>. This formats the title text in bold and adds a line feed on the web page.
If you use B2, Nucleus, or Roller, you can write the title between <title> and </title>
tags at the start of your post (create a shortcut in the dictionary for that) and the server will filter
that text out and display it as the title.
If you use MovableType, TypePad or any server that supports the MetaWeblogAPI, you can upgrade to
BlogPlanet, which directly supports the titles on these servers.
Q: When I click on the download link, I just get a lot of strange characters in
my browser, how can I download the file?
A: Hold the Shift-key while clicking on the download link and select where you want to save the file.
